Empowered Voices – Summer Trip Connection

By Lizzie Espinosa, Camp ETA Mother

Some family traditions never fade. They simply grow with each new generation. This summer, our family packed up the car and hit the road for another Walt Disney World adventure, bringing back memories of the road trips my parents used to take with my siblings and me when we were kids. The destination may have been the same, but this time the journey held even greater meaning.

Watching my youngest experience their first roller coaster reminded me that optimism often begins with a single brave step. Their nervous excitement quickly turned into proud smiles as they realized they were capable of more than they imagined. It was a small moment with a big lesson. One they’ll hopefully carry long after the vacation ends.

Of course, not every memory came from the rides. Some of our favorite moments were spent laughing together in the resort pool, slowing down just enough to enjoy each other’s company. We also returned to one of our family’s longtime favorites, T-REX Restaurants at Disney Springs, where familiar meals and shared stories reminded us how traditions connect us across the years. Today, those same parents sit beside their grandchildren, sharing stories from our childhood while helping create brand-new memories for the next generation.

One of the most magical experiences was our first time character dining with Snow White, the Evil Queen, Dopey, and Grumpy. Watching my children light up and laugh as they met these beloved characters was a reminder that Disney magic isn’t just for kids. It’s something that brings every generation together while starting new traditions.

The greatest gift of this trip wasn’t just making new memories. It was seeing my parents experience Walt Disney World again, this time through the eyes of their grandchildren. Years ago, they created unforgettable vacations for us. Today, we have the privilege of continuing that tradition and sharing it with them.

This vacation was more than a getaway it was a celebration of optimism. The optimism to keep family traditions alive despite busy schedules, growing children, and changing seasons of life. The optimism to continue investing in experiences that strengthen family bonds. And the optimism to pass down not only cherished memories, but also the joy of creating them together.
