We’ll provide training and materials for your weekly sessions of reading, playing, and learning with the child as well as conversations with the parent. You’ll also get lots of support from ETA staff and fellow volunteers in weekly peer group check-ins. Spanish-speaking volunteers are especially encouraged to apply! Email volunteer@empoweringtheages.org.

Help college students learn to make workplaces friendly to ALL generations!

Join a small team of college students as they work on a semester-long class project about how workplaces change. As part of this collaborative effort, you’ll provide feedback and support, share from your own experience, and learn from the students in your group, with direct support from their Information Science professor. Email volunteer@empoweringtheages.org to be connected with the program coordinator for more information.

GROUPS FINALIZED IN LATE SEPTEMBER.

Help teens learn life skills, dream big, and make plans for the future!

UPCOMING VOLUNTEER INTEREST SESSION (RSVP for Zoom link): SEPT 13, 11am-noon EST

Lunchtime Empowerment Club:  Work with high school students in a lunchtime empowerment club, on selected Wednesdays 11AM-12PM at a high school in  Gaithersburg. Help students explore specific topics that are of interest to the students, such as Goal Setting, Conflict Resolution, Communication, and Career Exploration. There are two different options: (1) Ongoing volunteers: Meet with students regularly throughout the school year, building relationships and helping them connect the subject material to their lives. OR (2) Specific topic volunteers: Volunteers will be able to request sessions by topic. We ask volunteers to commit to 2 weekly sessions at a time in order to be a consistent presence throughout an entire topic.

Career Workshops: Help develop and provide workshops for teens on various topics, including Goal Setting, Post-High School Exploration, Communication, Financial Literacy, Resumes, and Interviews.  Workshops occur on an as-needed basis and volunteers will choose to participate based on their topics of interest and their availability on the specific workshop dates. All workshops will take place during the week, but will vary during the day or in the late afternoon. Workshops are hosted at a variety of locations across Montgomery County.

After-School Job Coaching: Provide support for teens that are employed by after-school programs at selected Montgomery County.high schools.  Volunteers will meet with the same teens once per month to troubleshoot, offer a listening ear, and reinforce workforce development concepts throughout the school year.  Sessions will take place for 1 hour between 2:30-4:30pm, and the day of the week will vary by school.
